Mission Church and Museum open daily 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (Closed: New Years, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas)

In 1982 a tradition was begun to hold the celebration of Las Posadas, a re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.  For nine evenings, starting on December 15th, we meet on the porch of the Old Mission San Jose Museum and depart at 6:15 p.m. to walk to a local business or site within two blocks singing Christmas carols as we go. A family is selected to carry the hand-carved statue of Mary and Joseph. Once we arrive, we ask for room at the Inn. The host turns us away but eventually welcomes us in to take shelter.  Fremont Cultural Arts Council arranges for local folks to entertain us and we conclude with enjoying light snacks provided by the host business. A wonderful way to celebrate the true Christmas spirit. Please wear warm clothing and bring a flashlight to read the music as we process. We hope you will join us rain or shine for this no-cost celebration!

Co-sponsored by Old Mission San Jose Museum and Fremont Cultural Arts Council. For more info, contact 510-657-1797, ext 106
